The Lion Inn has four traditional hand pumps and generally have three or four draught beers available. We also have one real cider available. We constantly strive to serve the perfect pint, and as such were named the Gwent CAMRA Pub Of The Year 2003/2004 (see CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2006 page 589)

Our current "House" beer is a lovely light beer from Bath Ales called SPA. (Click on the Hare to visit their site)

Another regular is Butty Bach from the Wye Valley Brewery.

Regular favourites to the Lion are beers from Bath Ales, Wye Valley Brewery, Archers, Cottage Brewery and Eccleshall.

Not so regular, but still seen at least three or four times a year, are beers from from Hobdens, Bullmastiff, Stonehenge and the Moor Beer Company.

However, by far the most popular ales are the one-offs.  The Lion has had over 350 different beers from 118 Breweries.

The following article appeared in the Newsletter of the Gwent branch of the Campaign for Real Ale, issue 34 Winter 2003/2004, page 18. This publication has sadly been retired, but may hopefully make a comeback soon.

"The Lion - King of Gwent Pubs

The newly crowned Gwent CAMRA "Pub of the Year for 2003/2004" is the Lion Inn, Trellech. Owners Tom & Debbie Zsigo have built up quite a head of steam in recent years gaining recognition from CAMRA with regular entries in the "Good Beer Guide", as well as receiving awards from other pub-interested organisations. It is this momentum that has swept it past some serious rivals to scoop Gwent CAMRA's top pub award. The commitment to all round quality is evident for all to see. Consistently good and often outstanding real ales, where interest is boosted by a successful summer beer festival, and traditional cider, can all be enjoyed whilst tucking into superb food. With limited space, the Lion, located on the B4293 Chepstow - Monmouth Road, has somehow managed to successfully combine the traditional qualities of a country inn with those of a first class restaurant. The arrival of high standard accommodation has enabled visitors to extend their stay in this attractive and historical location. Previously the Lion has finished in the runners-up "medal" positions but this time had deservedly struck gold. A presentation will be made on Saturday 21st February 2004 at 2.00pm, the start of National Pubs Week in Gwent."
