Menus


The Lion Inn is arguably one of the finest pub dining venues in Monmouthshire and South East Wales. The Lion Inn was shortlisted Nationally for the "Food Pub Of The Year" having won through to become the "Food Pub Of The Year" for Wales (A National competition run by The Morning Advertiser, one of the largest Trade Journals), and also having won the coveted South Wales Argus "Pub Restaurant Of The Year" title for three consecutive years, 2000/2001, 2001/2002 and 2002/2003. Regulars travel from as far afield as Cardiff (60 miles) to enjoy an evening at The Lion.

Our menus range from traditional pub grub, through to the exotic and unheard of; with children and vegetarians being catered for with their own menus. We offer an extensive and truly authentic Hungarian menu as well as a number of Thai curry dishes. All our "standard" menus are listed below, however, we can only give you a sample our our "specials" boards, as they are changed weekly.

Turkey Budapest £13.75

A modern Hungarian dish, which is now served in the trendy restaurants of Budapest. Pan-fried turkey steak topped with ham, mushrooms, pineapple and melted cheese, served with either Parsley Rice, Parsley Potatoes or chips.

A walk on the Wild Side

This is our back to the earth and wild food board and contains such items as:

Wild Mushroom Stroganoff with Rice£13.75

Pan fried wild mushrooms coated in breadcrumbs served with crispy bacon and crusty brown bread £11.75

Obviously this board changes regularly dependent on the seasons and availability of hedgerow treasures. Some of the mushrooms we have already used that tend to be more readily available are :- yellow oyster, shiitake, girolle, pied bleu, hon - shimeji, paris brown and paris creme. We have also had locally harvested giant puff balls, but the season is quite short for these.

Specials Board

The dishes on this particular board are changed weekly, and are somewhat dictated by availability and the seasons. Regular favourites include Beef Stroganoff, Chicken in a creamy Tarragon sauce, Kangaroo steak, Ostrich with a creamy garlic sauce, Pork steak with a cider sauce and Duck.

Desserts

A delicious and mouthwatering choice of up to eight sweets. Many are home made and a great way to end your meal, priced at £4.20. With Ice Creams starting from £1 a scoop

Tea, fresh filter coffee and liqueur coffee are also available
